Her descriptions of setting up a tent on the deck of an Alaska State Ferry (hint: duct tape) for her weeklong trip are as lively as her response to her fellow travelers and the magnificent landscape. I recently read Yishai Schwartz’s critique in The New Republic of Wired’s much-discussed Edward Snowden profile by James Bamford. Schwartz points out that while Bamford should be congratulated on scoring the interview, he fails to engage in real journalism by asking Snowden any tough questions, resulting in what is essentially a puff piece on the ever-elusive whistleblower.
