Why We Like It

Buddy Lodge is a great alternative to the cheap accommodation options on Khao San Road. While it’s still budget-friendly, the hotel has clean rooms with great balconies, a fun pool scene, and even its own nightclub. The street is generally loud and packed with drunken backpackers and groups of partiers, but the location is great for some of the city’s best attractions, temples, and monuments.

Fodor's Expert Review

Khao San Road is a backpacker’s haven filled with cheap hostels, endless drink specials, and street food galore. Amidst the chaos, Buddy Lodge is a budget-friendly Colonial-style hotel that brings a touch of class to the wild and crazy street. With clean rooms, overhanging balconies, a fun pool, and even its own nightclub, Buddy Lodge is the best alternative for any tourist who doesn’t want to share a bathroom or bed with six other people.

On the fifth floor of the hotel is the pool with ample lounge space and a bar with a large selection of cocktails.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

There’s no public transit in this area at the moment--but future plans for the BTS Skytrain and MRT subway include stops in and around Khao San Road. Otherwise, you’re stuck walking or taking a taxi. Just be aware that this neighborhood's traffic is some of the worst in the city because of all the sightseeing, so you’re better off getting on the back of a motorbike taxi.

Restaurants

Khao San Road is a street-food lovers dream. If you look hard enough, you’ll spot vendors frying up scorpions and other critters. If you love bao, head over to Susie Walking Street and post up at Susie Wong’s Beers & Buns (4-minute walk).

Bars

Jazz enthusiasts should leave the confines of Khao San Road and head east to Brown Sugar (10-minute walk) for nightly live music and good drink specials. Cocktail enthusiasts should bypass Brown Sugar and search for the hidden entrance to Ku Bar (10-bar) behind the jazz spot. Once inside the mostly abandoned building, you’ll find a secret entrance 3-floors up where a minimalist bar serves mouthwatering concoctions.
