Why We Like It

While the hotel feels out of place, it is a really nice, and not-so-expensive option for this part of town. Sure, you’ll have to cab or walk a long way to anything of note, but you’re on the right side of town to explore the best attractions, monuments, and temples. You won’t go hungry here, as there are six dining options, and the pool and spa provide sweet respites from long days in the sun.

Fodor's Expert Review

The Royal Princess feels very out of place in this mostly discreet Dusit neighborhood. But out of place merely means that it’s much nicer than its surroundings in this case. The hotel has a both a resort feel and a corporate feel--good for families and large groups evenly. Amenities include a variety of restaurants, a pool, spa, and more, and is decently close to some of the biggest attractions in all of Bangkok.

Room

Simple bedrooms come with small Thai art details and brown and gray carpets and drapes. Guests can expect bottled water, coffee & tea makers, and flat screen TVs in all rooms.

Bathroom

Small bathrooms are equipped with shower/tub combos, beige tile, and marble sinks.

Lobby

The expansive lobby has lots of seating areas and meeting space. At the back, guests will find a bakery and restaurant. The Lobby Lounge also serves up cocktails and live piano music every night.

Pool

Open from 7 a.m. to 9 p.m., the resort-like salt-water pool is surrounded by lounge chairs and guests have access to food and drinks. For families, there’s a kid’s pool, and on the occasional (rare) chilly night, there’s a Jacuzzi as well.

Spa

Sata Beauty and Spa has four treatment rooms and offers a small menu of massages and scrubs.

Gym

The petite Fitness Center has a few treadmills and cardio machines along with a smattering of free weights. The good news is that there are trainers on hand to help with your workout.

Dining

There’s a bevy of dining options here including an all-day international buffet, Chinese and Japanese restaurants, an Italian eatery, and a bakery. None of them are particularly note-worthy, but they'll do.

Drinking

Drinks can be had at all the dining establishments, but the only true bar is at the Lobby Lounge with live piano music throughout the week.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Getting around this area requires lots of walking or lots of sitting around in taxis. The hotel will shuttle you to areas with public transit, but only twice a day and not at night. Keep this in mind if/when you decide to stay here. The area is really safe and good for exploring the Old City, Chinatown, and the Dusit district in general, but it’s also far from any public transportation and is practically dead at night. Getting to major shopping complexes or the nearest Skytrain Station is a hike, but the hotel does offer a free shuttle at 11 a.m. and 2 p.m. every day.

Restaurants

Seven Spoons (9-minute walk) is a great find for Mediterranean and international cuisine in the neighborhood. Another local joint is Mad Moa (6-minute walk) a burgers and beer spot with a little bit of the tropics sprinkled in.

Bars

Jazz lovers should catch a cab and head to Brown Sugar (4-minute drive), an open bar with music every night. If you love cocktails, head behind Brown Sugar and up a few floors to Ku Bar (4-minute drive) for insanely original drink concoctions.
