Why We Like It

Deserving of its Royal seal of approval, the Goring is the perfect choice for people who want the buzz that comes with such a personalized luxury hotel experience. The neighborhood isn’t the most thrilling area of London, but connects easily to plenty of swanky restaurants and bars nearby. A winter evening spent in front of the roaring fire, room waiting in the hotel above, sounds like an idyllic London experience to us.

Fodor's Expert Review

The Royal Family’s hotel of choice, a stay at The Goring hotel is about as close as most of us will ever come to living like the Queen of England. Reassuringly expensive, much of the hotel’s appeal once rested with its aristocratic connections and its history, however, a full makeover completed in the last decade has created a luxury boutique property whose present is just as appealing as its past. A family-run establishment in the upmarket neighbourhood of Belgravia, it thrives on personalised service and tradition.

You Should Know Belgravia isn’t the most exciting neighbourhood, once you’re tired of Michelin-starred restaurants and high-end boutiques.

Room

Individually decorated with fabric wallpaper, antique dressing tables, and cozy armchairs, rooms at The Goring are aimed at delivering more than just a place to sleep. Luxe fabrics and vibrant colors combine in most to create just the type of environment that might appeal to a Royal in waiting on the night before her wedding—yes, Kate Middleton spent the night at the Goring before her marriage to Prince William.

Bathroom

Monochrome marble and claw foot tubs take care of the regal part, while TVs built into the walls add a dose of high tech luxe to the spacious bathrooms here.

Lobby

The sleek, grand lobby is the perfect presentation of the hotel’s traditional glamor. Featuring a gorgeous marble floor and stunning bespoke wallpaper, there is a humorous charm to the welcome area, with many of the Goring family depicted in unusual situations on the hand painted walls.

Gym

It may not be the biggest but the gym at The Goring is quaint at least. Tucked into its own small room, it has all you’d require for a full cardio workout, although the scenery of nearby Green Park might make for a more interesting run.

Dining

The Michelin-starred Dining Room at The Goring serves a proudly British menu, specialising in the best regional ingredients.

Tip In true royal style, diners are served the roast rib of beef at the table from a silver trolley.

Drinking

The perfect place to indulge with a cocktail in front of an open fire, the stately lounge bar at The Goring is probably not going to have you pining for the living room you’ve left behind at home.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Close to the major transport hub of Victoria, the hotel has great connections to tube lines running all over the city, as well as national rail for trips further afield. Belgravia and the nearby areas of St. James, Mayfair and Knightsbridge are best explored on foot, but if you need a black cab, they are readily available at most times of day or night.

Restaurants

A wealthy neighbourhood, there’s no shortage of fine eating establishments to choose from. For a break from British style and cuisine, eat some of London’s best Japanese food at Kouzu (1-minute walk). Otherwise, pick between the Admiral Codrington (9-minute drive) and the Thomas Cubbit (9-minute walk), two excellent gastro pubs with great drinking and dining options in a more informal atmosphere.

Bars

A true blue neighbourhood charmer, The Nag’s Head (15-minute walk) is a classic London boozer that attempts to retain its historic swagger—so refrain from using your mobile phone or risk side eyed glances. A more sophisticated tipple can be found at the Ebury Wine Bar (8-minute walk), which also serves food, should you get hungry. Stronger still, whisky is master at Scottish bar, Boisdale (6-minute walk), where a rarefied selection of single malts awaits.
