Why We Like It

We like it for the owner's refreshing and funny attitude, mainly - and for the affordable prices in an easily commutable location. The breakfast ain't bad either.

Fodor's Expert Review

Any guesthouse where the website tells us it is "legit the best place for your squad to stay woke" and then follows it up with this great line on its Phibsborough location - "While the area sometimes resembles a scene from the night of the living dead, you’ve nothing really to worry about as 85% of visitors make it home alive" - gets our vote for humor alone. Luckily, the lodge itself is a reasonable place to stay outside the city center too, with a good breakfast and an easy commute into town - about 20 minutes on the No. 46A bus, or a nearby Luas stop beckons too. And they're only joking about the area.

Room

Guest rooms are basic but comfortable enough, with good beds and high ceilings, and smatterings of crushed velvet.

You Should Know The hotel itself warns you in its amusing manner that it is budget accommodation, so don't expect all the bells and whistles. "Please be advised this is not Buckingham Palace," they say - and we'll echo that.

Bathroom

Bathrooms are not large but some have freestanding baths, which is a nice touch.

Lobby

Alongside all the modern humor, the hotel is actually in a lovely historic terrace, and reception retains that old-school feel.

Dining

Breakfast at the White Moose cafe is great, and comes served with the guesthouse's trademark lols (we're just trying to capture a bit of their style here).

Tip Try the pancakes, or the full Irish cooked breakfast. Delicious.

Drinking

There's no bar, but guests can buy cold drinks at reception and there's an attractively vintage-style lounge, too.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

The hotel is not in the city center, but public transport to reach the sights is fairly simple.

Restaurants

Cotto (15-minute walk) is a cool spot for great brunches and pizzas in the evenings. Or break up or cap off a day's sightseeing with some great Asian street food at bustling Neon (29 minutes by bus and a short walk).

Bars

The Back Page (9-minute walk) is a decent local sports bar that also does pizza. Or in the center, hit up The Bar With No Name (23-minute bus) for some lively late-night fun.
