Why We Like It

If you’re after standard chain hotel rooms in a central location for an affordable price, this is the hotel for you.

Fodor's Expert Review

Clean and comfortable, this large and rather anonymous chain hotel overlooking the Amstel River is perfectly situated for those who want to enjoy the nearby club scene, or simply do some sightseeing.

You Should Know Front rooms have sweeping river views but can be noisy, even in the wee hours, when the surrounding discos empty; you might sleep better if you forgo the view.

Room

The 218 slightly dated rooms are decorated in dark wood and neutrals, with warm orange (the Dutch national color) as an accent, and headboards featuring large blow-ups of tulips; hardly original but okay, and affordable considering the location. Amenities include flat-screen TVs, free WiFi, Nespresso coffee makers, and air-conditioning.

You Should Know While the hotel is set in a series of 17th-century merchant’s houses, few hints of that history remain on the inside.

Bathroom

Small, modern bathrooms come with a shower or bath/shower combination and all the other basic amenities you’d expect from a chain hotel.

Tip Some rooms have adapted bathroom facilities for the disabled.

Lobby

Done up in the colors of the Dutch flag–red, white and blue–the lobby is large and functional, but not a particularly inviting place to hang out. The staff at the 24-hour reception are professional, and there’s concierge service.

Dining

Brasserie FLO, the on-site restaurant, is a fine choice for classic French fare. There is also a Continental buffet breakfast (not included).

Drinking

Bar 36 Black has the usual selection of beer, wine, and cocktails, but with so many options in the area, we urge you to go exploring.

What's Nearby

Getting Around

Situated near Rembrandt Square, one of Amsterdam’s busiest nightlife hubs, you’re certainly at the center of it all. But, you’re also a comfortable stroll to the quieter Eastern Canal Belt, Museum District and beyond. A tangle of trams nearby will take you to Centraal Station or further afield.

Restaurants

Why not try Indonesian rijsttafel (“rice table”) a feast of flavors from the Netherlands’ favorite adopted cuisine at Tempo Doeloe (8-minute walk)? Or go Dutch–at least as far as cuisine type is concerned–at Lt. Cornelis (8-minute walk). Meanwhile, The French Connection (9-minute walk) offers a lighter take on Gallic cuisine in an atmospheric Golden Age landmark.

Bars

Door 74 (6-minute walk) is a superb and enduringly stylish speakeasy-style bar. Or, for a slice of local history, an 8-minute walk will take you to Café de Sluyswacht, which used to be a lock keeper’s cottage, but now offers nice canal views and typical Dutch bar snacks.
