Fodor's Expert Review It Rains Fishes
Editor's Note: This location is no longer in operation.
Crown Prince Willem Alexander has been known to pop in here, so you know it must be good. A gleaming eggshell, ivory, and mirrored jewel box, It Rains Fishes is run by a team of international chefs, whose predominantly aquatic specialties combine Thai, Malaysian, Indonesian, and French flavors. Its name, taken from a Thai folktale of fishes jumping from the river after a heavy rainfall, finds a few echoes in the restaurant's decor, with the occasional painted fish leaping around on the ceiling and walls. Specialties include sea bass with lemon and tarragon oil, and king crab in the shell with Malay black pepper sauce. For an unorthodox but totally winning dessert, choose the Thai-basil-and-chocolate sorbet. Outdoor dining is available in good weather.
