Fodor's Expert Review Avrora
Editor's Note: This property is currently undergoing renovations.
This historic cruiser, moored in front of the Nakhimov Academy of Naval Officers and reopening in the summer of 2014 after an extensive restoration, saw action in the 1904–05 Russo-Japanese War as well as in World War II, but it's best known for its role in the Bolshevik Revolution. At 9:40 pm on November 7, 1917, the cruiser fired the shot that signaled the storming of the Winter Palace. On display are the crew's quarters and the radio room used to broadcast Lenin's victory address.
