Travel north along the A70 from Dumfries for a short trip through time at some very different attractions. Drumlanrig Castle is one of Scotland’s grandest houses, set amid hills, moorland, and forest. In contrast, the world of lead miners, explored at the Museum of Lead Mining, was a great deal harsher. A spectacular modern addition to the area, the land artwork Crawick Multiverse, transforms the landscape into a mirror of the heavens. Sculptor Andy Goldsworthy’s Striding Arches frame a natural space and invite the walker to explore them.
