Sant Agustí
Pl. Sant Agustí 3, Barcelona, Catalonia 08001, SpainWhy We Like It
The best thing about this hotel is undoubtedly its location as its central spot is a stone’s throw from Las Ramblas and right in the middle of town. History buffs will also appreciate the building and its charming touches that go back more than 200 years. Inside there aren’t a ton of amenities – there’s no pool, spa, gym, or dedicated restaurant – but you do get what you pay for here (breakfast is free) and that’s easy access to dozens of restaurants, bars, museums, attractions, and shopping streets.
Fodor's Expert Review
With the distinction of being the oldest hotel in Barcelona, this property has a history that dates to the 18th Century and was once the former library of a convent. As a hotel, it goes back to 1840 and traces of its original arches, exposed brick, and wood-beamed ceilings are still visible today. Absent of many frills, the hotel was recently renovated with a more modern feel and style, while keeping the charm of its ancient roots.

Room
More original stone and arches can be seen in the guest rooms, which are now decked out with hardwood floors, and dark wood headboards that are back lit through a frosted glass window. Hanging lights sway from red strings next to the beds where USB ports allow for easy charging. All rooms have mounted TVs and many feature balconies (opt for these as they look out over the square).
Tip 11 of the rooms are triples which are ideal for families.
Bathroom
Newly renovated bathrooms mostly feature showers though a handful have baths. Amenities are scarce, so it would be wise to buy your own soap and shampoo/conditioner. There is a hairdryer though.
Lobby
The lobby shows off the hotel’s original arches from the convent and now has modernist furniture as beige leather banquettes look out onto the square from giant windows. At the back of the lobby is a business corner with a few computers in case you need to print your boarding pass.
Dining
There’s no formal restaurant in the hotel, but a buffet breakfast is complimentary for all guests and has a lovely terrace under old stone from the original structure.
