Fodor's Expert Review Glenora Inn & Distillery

13727 Hwy. 19, Glenville, Nova Scotia, B0E 1X0, Canada

North America's first single-malt whisky distillery adjoins this whitewashed inn north of Mabou, making it easy to sample a wee dram of Glen Breton Rare. You can tour the distillery for free, enjoy fine regional cuisine at the inn's restaurant, and daily in season hear Cape Breton music played at the pub. Three buildings contain guest rooms, and handsome log chalets (complete with whirlpool baths, woodstoves, and kitchens) sit on the steep hillside behind.

PROS

  • some ground-level rooms have their own patio
  • beautifully wooded property bisected by a brook
  • twice daily ceilidhs June through October

CONS

  • expensive
  • road to chalets is steep and tricky to navigate at night
  • pub and restaurant may not be open in May
