Fodor's Expert Review Manzanita Lake Camping Cabins

Lassen Park Hwy., Lassen Volcanic National Park, California, 96063, USA

This lakeside compound of 20 rustic but handsomely designed modern cabins provides the only roof-over-your-head lodgings on the main park highway, but this is a camping experience, albeit a nicely outfitted one. The wood-frame units, nestled in a grove of pine trees, can sleep from two to eight people and have tables and chairs, porches, picnic tables, fire rings, bear-proof lockers, and beds with firm mattresses. Shower and bathing facilities are nearby at the camp store. Bedding is not included, though you can purchase a reasonably-priced amenity package that includes sleeping bags, lanterns, cooking utensils, and a s'mores kit.

PROS

  • only lodgings on Lassen Park Highway
  • picturesque setting
  • guests can purchase amenity packages, including sleeping bags

CONS

  • must supply your own bedding
  • rustic
  • open only seasonally
