Mainly a place to stay when visiting Fort Assinniboine, the town of Havre (population 9,791) is the trading center for a wide area of extreme north-central Montana and southern Alberta and Saskatchewan. It lies in the Milk River valley in the shadow of the Bears Paw Mountains, and in a preserve south of town you can fish, picnic, or just enjoy the view.
