Fodor's Expert Review Holland Lake Lodge

1947 Holland Lake Rd., Condon, Montana, 59826, USA

When the snow flies, this lodge is nearly buried, which makes for cozy fireside dining and relaxing. The log lodge sits on the lakeshore, where you can cross-country ski or snowshoe from the door. In summer, step off the cabin porch for a hike or a swim. Cabins are updated yet rustic. You can dine on trout in the restaurant ($$$$) while watching the trout rise.

PROS

  • morning coffee (or afternoon cocktails) delivered to your room or cabin
  • you can't ask for a better place to relax, particularly during the shoulder seasons
  • the lake offers great paddling and fishing, so it's great the lodge rents kayaks

CONS

  • the 4 miles of unpaved road can be a bit rough and very congested during the summer
  • this is a heavily used area in July and August for packers and hikers heading into the backcountry
  • no TVs and shared bathrooms in the main lodge
