Fodor's Expert Review Historic Farnsworth House Inn
401 Baltimore St., Gettysburg, Pennsylvania, 17325, USA
This 1810 building has a rich history that includes sheltering Confederate soldiers during the Battle of Gettysburg—more than 100 bullet holes are forever part of the walls—and guest rooms are decorated with period antiques and Victorian furnishings including four-poster beds. Civil War--era dishes such as game pie, peanut soup, pumpkin fritters, and spoon bread are among the specialties in the dining room. During warmer months, you can relax in the outdoor beer garden and brick patio café. The inn offers a variety of ghost tours ($10–$15) that begin with dramatizations and stories in the basement's Mourning Theater, and hosts a monthly Paranormal Overnight ($55). There's a gift shop and bookstore on site, which doubles as overnight guest check-in.
