Without a doubt the king of the menu is pizza—La Trattoria's pies are cooked in a brick, wood-burning pizza oven and can be garnished with over 20 inventive toppings. If you're not feeling pizza, you will also find a variety of pasta options and seafood dishes. If you order the house wine, ask for it to be served in one of their signature ceramic chicken pitchers. This spot is usually packed with locals both at dinnertime and during the workday lunch rush, so it's best to reserve ahead.

Located at the entrance of the Royal Naval Dockyard, the Anchor offers a range of contemporary and seafood dishes. Open early for breakfast, the menu has local favorites like codfish breakfast, and the chefs are happy to prepare meals to suit your dietary needs. At this Victorian-style bar and restaurant renovated from a former jewelry shop, the menu lists traditional gastropub offerings including Scotch eggs and balti chicken pie (flaky pastry filled with spiced chicken). It is also a surprisingly child-friendly spot, with a kids' menu that features mini burgers, fish fingers, and grilled chicken with peas. Kids also eat free all day on Saturday with a paying adult. Even after a refurbishment and update to the interior of this Italian-owned restaurant, it still has all the charm of an unassuming-but-good eatery in a small Italian village. On balmy evenings, share the calamari or garlic bread—two starters for which the restaurant is renowned—outside on the dining area patio, and then move on to the pastas and pizzas. You can't go wrong with the pasta featuring the day's local catch or the classic margherita pizza. For dessert, try the tiramisu.
