From the north, take the Highway 44 exit off Interstate 5 in Redding and drive east about 50 miles to the park's northwest entrance, at Highway 89. From the south, take Exit 649 off Interstate 5 and follow Highway 36 northeast 45 miles, turning left onto Highway 89 to reach the southwest (and only year-round) entrance. The 30-mile main park road, officially called Lassen National Park Highway but often called simply Lassen Park Highway, skirts around the southern, eastern, and northern sides of Lassen Peak, connecting the southwest and northwest entrances. Take Highway 36 from the southwest entrance to Chester to reach Warner Valley and Juniper Lake, in the remote southeastern side of the park, and follow Highway 44 east from Manzanita to reach the similarly secluded Butte Lake area.
