Why We Like It
It is clear that James and Jill have spent a lot of time thinking about what their guests might want and need, from local snacks in the rooms to the generous home-made breakfasts. Service is top-notch all around, from the student interns who come from Britain to learn the inn trade for a year to the permanent staff who are all attentive. Rooms are luxurious and comfortable, amenities abound and the inn is a peaceful retreat no matter what time of year.
Fodor's Expert Review
This lovely bed and breakfast, comprised of several buildings, the Main House, an 1839 Greek-Revival style mansion, an attached Carriage House, converted stables, and a 200-year-old “bow roof cape” called the Captain’s Cottage, is one of the more upscale inns on the Cape. The grounds are meticulously cared for, with English Garden-style flowerbeds and an herb garden. Service is wonderful, with included amenities, like afternoon cream tea, port and sherry in the evening, and cookies and other treats offered at night, are thoughtful touches.
Tip A minimum length of stay of 2-3 nights may be required on weekends and during certain peak and holiday periods, and from June through October.

Room
The 16 rooms are spread among all the buildings. All offer king or queen-size beds, topped with luxurious linens, and antique furnishings, coupled with modern amenities like complimentary Wi-Fi and iPod docking stations. A complimentary welcome basket with snacks and bottled water await guests.

Bathroom
All guest rooms feature private bathrooms (some with Jacuzzi tubs) and designer Float bath amenities.
Lobby
In the main house, a comfortable front room and a separate library are stocked with books, board games and DVDs available to borrow and both offer plenty of places to sit and relax.
Pool
The in-ground pool is a nice place to cool down after a day of exploring.
Tip Harding's Beach in West Chatham is in the warmer, calmer waters of Nantucket Sound. With two parking lots, three life guard stations, a bathhouse with shower and food service trucks in each lot, Harding's is Chatham's most family-friendly beach.
Gym
A small fitness center has a treadmill, an elliptical machines and free weights. Additionally, the Chatham Health and Swim Club, a full-service gym with an indoor pool, offers guests at the Captain’s House Inn a $15 day pass.
Dining
An extensive complimentary breakfast, with everything from made-to-order entrées like Belgian waffles to a buffet with bagels, muffins, hard-boiled eggs, smoked salmon and more is laid out each morning. In the afternoon, a complimentary tea service with pastries is served in any of the public areas or in your room. A more formal high tea costs $9 per person. The inn also has a $12 lunch menu, which features a variety of salads and sandwiches. In the evening, cookies and other snacks are available for guests in the kitchen. In addition, rooms are stocked with complimentary snacks.
Drinking
In the afternoon, port and sherry are available in the library at no charge for guests. The inn has a great wine and beer menu guests can order from and, very considerately, there is very little mark up on the prices.

Getting Around
You’ll need a car to access most of the Cape, but there are two bike rental shops in Chatham, where you can rent bikes to explore the nearby Cape Cod Rail Trail.
Restaurants
The inn keepers have thoughtfully assembled a wall of restaurant recommendations, typed up on business card-sized pieces of paper, with directions and approximate driving times, which guests can take with them. Two spots the owners especially recommend are the Impudent Oyster (5-minute drive) and Bluefins Sushi & Sake Bar (5-minute drive), both of which serve excellent seafood.
Bars
The Chatham Wine Bar at the Chatham Inn on 359 (5-minute drive) offers 32 wines by the glass and is a cozy place to relax, while The Squire (5-minute drive) is a fun place to hang out, with live music and trivia nights.
